Grant Writer – Nonprofit Remote Entry Level

About This Role

This is a fully remote volunteer opportunity to support grant writing for a nonprofit organisation. You’ll work alongside the development team to identify and pursue funding opportunities from private foundations and charitable funders.

This is not a position where you’ll be expected to build a grant programme from scratch. The organisation has already developed foundational grant materials including organisational boilerplate, programme narratives, statements of need, and programme outcomes. You’ll help customise these resources into strong proposals for qualified funding opportunities.

What You’ll Do

As a Volunteer Grant Writer, you will assist with:

• Researching private and family foundation grant opportunities
• Reviewing funder guidelines and determining alignment with organisational priorities
• Preparing letters of inquiry, grant applications, and proposals
• Customising existing narratives to address individual funder priorities
• Gathering information needed for applications
• Maintaining accurate records of submissions, deadlines, and follow-up requirements
• Assisting with grant reports and stewardship when needed
• Working collaboratively with leadership to ensure proposals accurately represent the organisation and its impact

Skills/Background Needed

You should be a strong writer who can communicate both the mission and the practical case for philanthropic investment. Grant writing or nonprofit development experience is preferred, but we would also consider an experienced professional writer with a willingness to learn foundation grant writing. No prior grant writing experience is required – full guidance will be provided.

Why This Matters

Grant writing here is about more than securing funding. Every successful proposal directly supports the organisation’s ability to serve more people. Your writing can help expand access to services, equip more community leaders, and build the financial foundation necessary to grow impact in the years ahead.
