Writer/Reporter – Remote Entry Level

Roles: Writer/Reporter producing local news stories, features, and community coverage

About the Role: We’re looking for a writer/reporter to join a remote news team. You’ll produce engaging, accurate local news stories covering community news, events, and people. This is a fully remote position where you’ll work independently while staying connected with an editorial team.

What You’ll Do:

  • Research, report, and write local news and feature stories
  • Cover local government, schools, businesses, and community organizations
  • Conduct interviews and develop relationships with local sources
  • Identify and pitch story ideas
  • Meet regular deadlines and work independently in a remote environment
  • Produce clean, accurate copy meeting professional journalism standards
  • Source or obtain photos when appropriate for stories

Skills/background needed:

  • Previous experience writing news stories or reporting (we’ll provide training to build on your foundation)
  • Strong news writing and interviewing skills
  • Familiarity with AP style and basic journalism standards
  • Ability to work independently and meet regular deadlines
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Interest in community journalism and telling meaningful local stories
  • Comfortable working in a remote environment with regular team communication

Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.

Contract length: Ongoing

Expected hours: 10 – 40 hours per week (flexible)

Location: Fully remote – work from anywhere
