Technical Writer – Part Time Remote

We’re seeking a Part-Time Remote Technical Writer to develop and maintain clear, accurate documentation that supports system acquisition, fielding, maintenance, training, and lifecycle support. In this role, you’ll work with engineers, logistics specialists, maintainers, and trainers to turn complex technical information into usable products for operators, maintainers, and stakeholders.

What You’ll Do:

Develop, review, and update logistics support plans, lifecycle-support documents, maintenance plans, supportability reports, and fielding documentation. Prepare and revise technical manuals, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting guides, standard operating procedures, test documentation, and technical data packages. Analyze engineering drawings, specifications, test results, and maintenance data to support accurate technical content. Convert complex engineering and logistics information into clear instructions for operators, maintainers, trainers, and support personnel. Ensure documentation remains consistent with approved system configurations and customer requirements. Coordinate validation and verification reviews with engineers, logisticians, maintainers, trainers, and other subject matter experts. Track document revisions, review comments, approvals, and configuration-control status. Support technical reviews, logistics meetings, and time-sensitive documentation requirements. Prepare document-status reports, technical summaries, meeting notes, and action-item records.

Skills/background needed:

Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Logistics, Business, Engineering, Communications, or a related discipline (or equivalent directly relevant experience). At least three years of experience in technical writing, technical documentation, or comparable technical-product development. Experience developing or revising technical manuals, maintenance procedures, logistics plans, or lifecycle-support documents. Ability to analyze complex technical information and convert it into clear, accurate, and usable documentation. Experience coordinating technical reviews and resolving comments with subject matter experts. Experience managing document revisions, approvals, and configuration control. Strong writing, editing, proofreading, research, and information-organization skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and team communication tools. Ability to manage multiple documents, priorities, reviews, and deadlines within a part-time schedule.

Desirable experience:

Experience supporting government acquisition logistics, product support, system fielding, or lifecycle sustainment. Familiarity with technical publishing software such as Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat, or XML-authoring tools. Experience with engineering drawings, illustrated parts breakdowns, maintenance-task analysis, and technical data packages. Familiarity with configuration-controlled government documentation.
