Content Editor – Journal Publishing Remote

About the role:

As a Content Editor, you will manage the daily operations of scholarly publications, working with authors, editors, and reviewers to ensure high-quality content is published on time and to standard. You’ll coordinate workflows, troubleshoot publishing issues, and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders across the publication process. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in scientific communication while developing expertise in publishing operations.

What you will do:

• Monitor and manage the submission and peer review process for assigned publications, ensuring all manuscripts meet scope, quality, and ethical standards
• Support editors, authors, and reviewers with guidance on procedures, troubleshooting, and general assistance
• Coordinate editorial meetings and manage related administrative tasks
• Administer special collections, article corrections, images, and related content
• Track journal performance using analytics and reports; identify and escalate issues as needed
• Communicate clearly and professionally with editors and stakeholders to maintain transparency and accountability
• Meet all deadlines and demonstrate ownership of publication performance
• Develop and suggest improvements to publication processes and content
• Participate in special projects that support department goals
• Provide coverage for other publications during peak volume periods

Skills/background needed:

• Bachelor’s degree with 1–3 years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
• Experience in publishing (online, traditional, or both) is preferred
• Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines consistently
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate clearly to diverse audiences
• Professional interpersonal and customer service skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Sound judgment in problem-solving and knowing when to escalate issues
• Openness to feedback and continuous learning
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), databases, and PDF software
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the workplace
• Familiarity with scientific terminology is a plus
• Knowledge of scholarly communication is a plus

Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.

Contract length: Full-time, permanent position
