This is a fully remote role where you’ll produce timely, insightful coverage of the payments and financial services industry. Your work will include breaking news coverage, in-depth reporting, and feature articles analyzing trends and issues important to industry professionals. You’ll produce daily briefs and articles covering business, financial and regulatory developments, including corporate strategy changes, regulatory moves, legislative proposals, earnings reports and press releases.
You’ll work with other team members to develop editorial projects and build a strong beat in the payments arena, which is part of the broader financial services sphere. You’ll attend industry events, build relationships with sources, and collaborate with a team of experienced journalists.
What you’ll do:
- Contribute news stories to our website and daily newsletter, working collaboratively with the rest of the team on assignments and editing
- Identify key industry storylines and pitch standout pieces on breaking news
- Follow payments topics and broader financial trends to stay ahead of developments
- Track analytics to understand what stories resonate with readers
- Work with the team in a newsroom that encourages innovative and creative projects
Skills/background needed: Strong writing and reporting skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced news environment. Experience in business, financial services, payments and/or fintech reporting is highly preferred. You’ll need to interpret and analyze business concepts and major news stories, including financial reports, legal documents, and government regulations. An ability to build relationships with industry and other sources and grasp complex subjects is essential. Strong digital news knowledge, deadline-oriented time management, and an ability to turn around stories on tight deadlines (including breaking news) are important. A bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or a similar field is required. At least 3 years of writing and reporting experience is expected.
Contract length: Full-time, permanent
