We’re seeking an Associate Editor to help manage the editorial workflow and guide content from assignment through to publication. This is a coordination-focused role with real ownership: tracking stories, working with writers, refining drafts, and partnering with design to meet deadlines.
What You’ll Do
Shape editorial plans and assign stories, keeping writers aligned on scope and deadlines. Review and line-edit all content for clarity, structure, voice, and accuracy before final copy editing. Oversee a small team of writers and coordinate freelancers. Recruit and onboard new contributors as needed. Work with the design team to support final production and meet monthly publication deadlines. Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders to support reporting.

3+ years editing experience in a newsroom or publishing environment. Strong news judgment and ability to shape angles and tighten structure quickly. Excellent line-editing skills and attention to detail. Solid command of AP Style. Proven ability to manage writers and freelancers with clear feedback. Comfortable with print workflows and collaborating with designers. Organized, deadline-driven, and calm under pressure. Experience with local civic issues, community journalism, Spanish proficiency, and basic content management systems are a plus, but not required.
