About This Role:
We’re looking for a Technical Writer to create clear, user-friendly documentation for consumer products. You’ll work on user manuals, safety guides, quick-start materials, and troubleshooting content that helps people understand and safely use products.
This is a contract position where you’ll work fully remotely from home, collaborating with engineering, product, and compliance teams to turn complex technical information into straightforward, accessible documentation for global audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Documentation Creation:
• Write and maintain user manuals, quick-start guides, safety labels, and troubleshooting materials
• Create clear setup, operation, maintenance, and assembly instructions with supporting visuals
• Develop consistent templates to ensure documentation quality across product ranges
• Work with engineering teams to ensure all technical details are accurate and complete
Safety and Compliance:
• Write safety warnings, caution statements, and hazard notices that meet industry standards
• Ensure all safety symbols and language comply with regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with compliance and quality teams on documentation reviews and approvals
Global Support:
• Prepare documentation for translation into multiple languages
• Create region-specific versions for international markets
• Manage version control, updates, and revision tracking across product releases
Collaboration:
• Partner with design, brand, and marketing teams to ensure documentation aligns with product standards
• Participate in product launch readiness reviews
• Deliver finalized documentation to packaging and production teams
Skills/Background Needed:
• 3+ years of experience writing technical documentation, user manuals, or safety guides
• Experience with consumer electronics, wellness products, or similar industries
• Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for everyday users
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory compliance (safety symbols, labeling requirements)
• Proficiency with common authoring and content management tools
• Strong project management skills and ability to handle multiple deadlines
• Exceptional written English with attention to detail
• Experience with version control and multi-language documentation workflows
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, or related field
• Professional certification in technical writing
• Experience documenting app-connected or wireless devices
• Previous contract or freelance work managing multiple concurrent projects
