About this role:
We are looking for a writer/reporter to join our news team and produce engaging local news and feature stories. You’ll work independently from home, reporting on local government, community organizations, schools, events, and businesses. This is a flexible remote position ideal for self-motivated individuals who enjoy storytelling and meeting regular deadlines.
What you’ll do:
- Report and write local news and feature stories
- Cover local government, schools, businesses, community organizations and events
- Conduct interviews and build relationships with local sources
- Identify and pitch strong local story ideas
- Meet weekly publication deadlines while working independently
- Produce clear, accurate copy following professional journalism standards
- Source or take photos to accompany stories when needed
Skills/background needed:
- Previous experience writing or reporting for a newspaper or similar publication
- Strong news writing, interviewing and reporting skills
- Familiarity with AP style and journalism standards
- Ability to work independently and consistently meet deadlines
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Genuine interest in community journalism and storytelling
Rate: Competitive entry-level pay, details shared upon application.
Contract length: Flexible, typically 10–40 hours per week.
Location: Fully remote – work from anywhere.
