About the role

We’re looking for a part-time writer and reporter to contribute stories to community newspapers. You’ll cover local news, government meetings, and human-interest features. This is fully remote work, and you’ll collaborate with editors and local contacts to deliver accurate, engaging reporting.

This role is ideal if you’re passionate about community journalism and the impact local news has on the people it serves.

What you’ll be doing

• Report and write stories focused on local and regional news

• Cover city councils, county boards, and public meetings

• Report on government, civic, and institutional topics

• Develop human-interest and feature stories

• Conduct interviews via phone, email, video call, and with local sources

• Write clear, accurate, and engaging articles following standard journalistic style

• Work with editors to revise and polish stories for print and digital publication

• Manage assignments across multiple publications while meeting weekly deadlines

• Maintain high standards of accuracy, fairness, and ethical journalism

• Communicate clearly with editors and team members

Skills/background needed:

• Previous newspaper or professional journalism experience

• Strong written communication skills and familiarity with standard journalistic style

• Excellent organization and time-management skills

• Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment

• Strong interviewing skills and professional communication

• Comfort covering government and public meetings

• Reliable computer, internet access, and proficiency with email and word processing tools
