We’re looking for a News Writer to join our newsroom on a part-time, fully remote basis. You’ll write news copy, select audio for broadcasts, and work with our team to deliver timely, engaging content to our audience.
What You’ll Do:
• Write clear, accurate news copy using provided source materials and audio files, with an emphasis on accuracy under tight deadlines
• Review incoming news stories and select those most relevant to our audience
• Assemble hourly news lineups for writers and anchors
• Assign audio to newscasts and find creative ways to present stories with maximum impact
• Work closely with anchors, reporters, and the digital content team to prepare broadcasts
• Respond to listener inquiries and coordinate with external contacts when needed
• Flag content that may violate editorial or legal guidelines
• Suggest ideas to improve newsroom efficiency and strengthen community relationships
Skills/background needed:
• Strong news judgment and understanding of current events
• Familiarity with broadcast writing style and how to incorporate audio into stories
• Excellent grammar, spelling, and attention to detail
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Understanding of broadcast media regulations and editorial ethics
• Comfortable using social media to gather news and share content
• Friendly, professional communication with colleagues and the public
• Willingness to learn company policies and newsroom procedures
No prior broadcast experience required—full training will be provided. We welcome entry-level applicants with strong writing skills and a genuine interest in news.
Contract length: Part time
