About this role:
You’ll write and report news stories for digital platforms, working from home to serve local audiences. This is a fully remote position perfect for entry-level journalists who are eager to build their skills in a fast-paced newsroom environment. You’ll pitch story ideas, write quickly and accurately, and help identify trending topics that matter to your community. No prior professional experience required—full training and mentorship provided.
What you’ll do:
• Write 3 to 5 stories per day based on trending local news and audience interest
• Report news via articles, video, newsletters, and social media platforms
• Identify top stories of the day using analytics and audience potential
• Respond quickly to breaking news and coordinate with other team members
• Create alternative content formats such as listicles, slideshows, and timelines
• Collaborate with editors and colleagues on shared projects
• Build and maintain a network of reliable sources for story ideas
• Promote stories across social media to grow audience engagement
Skills and background needed:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field
• Strong writing and fact-checking abilities
• Familiarity with AP Style (full training provided if needed)
• Understanding of web analytics and how audience metrics guide story decisions
• Ability to meet deadlines in daily and breaking news situations
• Comfort with flexible schedules, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
• Openness to feedback and willingness to collaborate with peers
• Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple stories simultaneously
What success looks like:
You’ll deliver stories consistently and accurately, meet daily and weekly performance targets for audience growth, grow your social media presence, and work effectively with your editorial team. You’ll demonstrate strong news judgment and understanding of local market interests.
