Junior Grants Writer – Work From Home Entry Level

Position Summary

As a Grants Writer, you’ll develop and support a coordinated funding program. The role involves researching funding opportunities, preparing proposals, supporting compliance and reporting, and building professional relationships with funders and community partners. You’ll work with independence while collaborating closely with program, finance, and leadership teams. Full training will be provided—no prior grants writing experience is necessary.

What You’ll Do

Funding Strategy and Grant Development

• Develop and maintain a grants and funding calendar aligned with organizational priorities and program needs

• Research federal, state, local, corporate, and foundation funding opportunities; evaluate eligibility, competitiveness, and organizational fit

• Lead or coordinate grant applications, renewals, and funding requests from planning through submission

• Write clear, accurate, and compelling narratives using program information, measurable outcomes, and funder requirements

Budget, Compliance, and Post-Award Support

• Collaborate with finance and program leadership to develop proposal budgets, timelines, and performance measures

• Review award terms and communicate key obligations, including allowable costs, reporting deadlines, and record-retention requirements

• Maintain organized grant files, correspondence, agreements, and supporting documentation

• Coordinate narrative and performance reports and support financial reporting in collaboration with the Finance Department

Data Integrity and Internal Coordination

• Gather, verify, and synthesize program, demographic, outcome, and financial information from authorized sources

• Coordinate proposal and reporting assignments with program, finance, and leadership staff; establish internal deadlines and communicate risks

• Protect confidential and personally identifiable information in accordance with applicable law and agency policy

Community and Agency Communications

• Build and maintain professional relationships with funders, community partners, and supporters

• Represent the organization accurately and professionally in meetings, presentations, and community events when assigned

• Support development of communications materials such as brochures, presentations, and donor communications

• Manage multiple projects and competing deadlines; prioritize work and alert supervisors early when deadlines are at risk

Skills/background needed:

• Experience preparing professional written materials such as grant proposals, reports, or fundraising communications

• Ability to research and interpret detailed instructions, regulations, contracts, and requirements

• Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills

• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and online grant portals

• Ability to work independently and meet fixed deadlines

• Basic knowledge of budgets and financial terminology

• Attention to detail, sound judgment, and ability to handle confidential information responsibly

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, nonprofit management, public administration, or related field (equivalent experience considered). Two or more years of grants writing or nonprofit development experience. Experience with government and foundation grants or grants supporting youth, behavioral health, education, or human services.

Work Environment:

This is a fully remote position. The role involves regular use of a computer, word processing software, spreadsheets, and online portals. You’ll manage electronic records, participate in virtual meetings, and may occasionally need to attend community events in person when assigned. You may occasionally need to work outside normal business hours to meet submission deadlines.

Contract length: Permanent, full-time
