We’re looking for a creative outline writer to develop compelling fantasy romance novel outlines. You’ll work with a collaborative team to craft detailed, plot-driven outlines that serve as the foundation for full-length novels. This is a long-term, flexible freelance role where you work from home on your own schedule—as long as deadlines are met and communication is prompt.

What you’ll do:

Write detailed book and series outlines from concept through completion. Create outlines approximately 20,000 words each, designed to guide a full-length novel. Develop engaging characters with emotional depth, internal conflicts, and dynamic arcs. Craft thrilling, well-paced plots using single or alternating points of view with original twists and suspenseful storytelling. Build fantasy worlds with convincing lore, research-backed details, and atmospheric world-building. Create satisfying romantic arcs with emotional, tragic, and humorous moments. Spot and resolve plot discrepancies within individual outlines and across series. Adapt and update outlines as the story direction evolves. Work collaboratively with a team while also working independently.

What we’re looking for:

Strong familiarity with fantasy romance as a genre—including current popular series, emerging trends, and reader expectations. Excellent communication skills; ability to accept and provide constructive feedback in a collaborative way. Reliable and deadline-driven with the ability to respond to messages within 24 hours. Skilled researcher with attention to detail and the ability to fact-check lore and world-building elements. Comfortable working in shared online team spaces while also managing independent work. Able to self-edit and proofread before submitting. Willing to read and familiarize yourself with existing series work to maintain consistency and voice.

You’ll need to be comfortable using Microsoft Word’s Track Changes function and checking task management systems daily. All work must be original, human-written, and fully your own creation—no AI-generated, AI-assisted, templated, or pre-written content.

What you need to know:

This is a work-for-hire independent contractor position. You’ll sign a non-disclosure agreement, and all submitted work becomes the property of the employer with no rights retained by you. All work must be 100% original and human-created.

Ready to apply? Please include the following with your application: the number of fantasy romance outlines you’ve written (novels only, not screenplays or scripts), your availability start date, a brief explanation of your experience in the genre and why you’re suited for this role, and samples or a portfolio of your outline writing in fantasy romance.
