About the role:
As an Editorial Assistant, you will support the acquisition and development of books across science, education, and academic publishing. You will help manage a pipeline of projects, work with authors and reviewers to develop manuscripts, oversee an active portfolio of titles, and serve as a key point of contact with authors. You will build relationships with subject matter experts, advisors, and prospective authors, and use sound judgment to support the growth of your portfolio.
What you’ll be doing:
• Support the strategic acquisition and development of books for general, professional, scholarly, and academic audiences across science, education, and related fields
• Help manage and track a pipeline of projects in progress
• Work with authors, peer reviewers, and subject matter experts to refine manuscripts
• Support communication with authors and handle confidential information with discretion
• Build and maintain relationships with potential authors and key contacts in your subject areas
• Assist in overseeing an active list of published titles and ongoing projects
Skills/background needed:
• Bachelor’s degree in any field (publishing, science, literature, journalism, environmental studies, political science, or a related discipline preferred)
• Minimum three years of experience in book publishing, scientific publishing, academic publishing, journalism, or a related field
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with publishing contracts and industry terms
• Understanding of the academic and higher education landscape
• Ability to work professionally with academic authors
• Strong discretion and judgment when handling confidential matters
• Willingness to travel to campus locations and industry conferences as needed
