We’re looking for a detail-oriented copy editor to join our remote team on a part-time contract basis. You’ll edit stories, headlines, captions, and social copy across multiple formats — long-form, newsletters, social media, and print — ensuring every piece is clear, accurate, and engaging.
What you’ll do
Edit content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, accuracy, and style with speed and precision. Work across different content formats to maintain consistent voice and quality. Coordinate with editors and team members to ensure stories have all necessary elements — photos, captions, supporting content — before publication. Write and refine headlines that grab attention while staying accurate. Flag narrative, structural, and factual issues and work constructively with writers to resolve them. Ensure edited content meets style guidelines. Proofread and assist with publishing articles in content management systems. Meet all publication deadlines and provide feedback to improve editorial processes.
Skills/background needed
At least 2–3 years of editing experience preferred, but we encourage applications from people willing to learn. Strong grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills. Ability to communicate edits kindly and directly. Experience working under tight deadlines. Familiarity with AP style or quick ability to learn newsroom style guidelines. Experience editing multiple content formats (long-form, social, newsletters, print) is a plus. Good news judgment and commitment to ethical standards. Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Contract length
Part-time contract, approximately 20 hours per week. Potential for transition to permanent part-time employment depending on organisational needs.
