A growing news operation is building a dedicated breaking news desk and looking for beginner writers to join the team. This is a fully remote role with full training provided, and no prior newsroom experience is required.
Roles:
Monitor official sources, wire services and other outlets for developing stories.
Write and publish clear, accurate breaking news updates for a live news feed.
Keep a steady flow of updates coming through each shift, with more during major stories.
Decide what counts as breaking news and how to prioritise stories.
Verify information before publishing and follow sourcing and attribution standards.
Work closely with editors and the wider desk throughout each shift.
Skills/background needed:
No previous journalism experience necessary – we provide full training.
Good news judgment and a quick eye for what matters.
Strong English writing and editing skills.
Ability to stay accurate under tight deadlines.
Organised, detail-focused and comfortable with a team chat app and other digital tools.
Rate:
